Traction Control/Stabilitrack Lights on 2007

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this particular forum, but post frequently in the Windstar Forum. I'm trying to help my sister with her fairly "new to her" 2007 Yukon (5.7L). It's indeed a very nice looking car, but shortly after she took ownership of it, the "Service Stabilitrak" light illuminated at the same time that the Traction Control illuminated. They both go off with an engine restart and don't immediately return. She might go one day with them illuminating, or it might a be a week, but they always come back on.

She first told me about this several months ago and I did some quick googling and noticed that it's common enough on these vehicles to be on numerous forums, but as of today, I have not found any smoking gun problem. In fact, I haven't even found any narrative explanation from anyone explaining that their dealership fixed the problem and this is what the problem was.

Several accounts I've read on the internet state that numerous things happened. One guy said his steering wheel and brakes locked up and he lost control of his vehicle, etc. Nothing on the order of that happens to my sister's vehicle except the 'bing' and the lights come on.

I'd lean toward a suspect wheel sensor, because I understand that without valid wheel speed data, the vehicle can't accurately control slides/skids. But without throwing cash at it, I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it. I've even got an o'scope, but how the heck am I supposed to measure that sensor with it connected and at a decent speed?

This forum has saved me numerous times and I've been lucky to provide others with assistance that got them back on the road. Hopefully the same thing will happen on this particular problem.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

P.S. Today when the lights were on, I connected my OBD scanner to see if any codes were thrown, but there were none. I don't believe that my scanner can retrieve ABS codes, so its very possible that the one Autozone (or other similar stores) offer might. Anyone know of someplace that can retrieve ABS codes free?

Yes, you can usually get your codes scanned for free at a Autozone, or place like that. Several things can cause those lamps to come on...steering position sensor, speed sensor, ebtcm and so on. Get the code and post. We'll be glad to help!
