1989 Ford Ranger starting problems

alright people i dont know what is going on, 1989 ford ranger 2 wheel drive 4 cylinder, i replaced the start 8 months ago and everything was fine, til last night when i went to go to work and low and behold battery light on and it trys to crank over, i hear a pop inside the cab im guessing a fuse but i dont have a manual and cant find one to see what fuse is what. Someone told me it was a solenoid so i went and bought that and replaced it and now theres no crank, and battery light is on. New battery too. Just replaced the new one with the old one and still nothing.
