Update on Blower Motor Problems

I have been finally getting around to looking into fixing my blower problems. My climate controls have not been functioning most of the summer even after a ignition switch replacement that got me through most of the winter. I notice when I turn it on the AC light comes on and all the lights function on the CC panel. When I turn it on to the 1-4 setting i don't hear anything but when I go from 4 to 5 it makes a clicking sound. I don't know if this means a resistor problem or not but I bought one a few weeks ago and don't want to go through the hassle of replacing it if its not the right part that's broken.

Thanks

Remove and check the fan to make sure it still works. If it does go ahead and replace the resistor. This will eliminate the fan and resistor as an issue. After they have checked out you may need to check the wiring to the ignition switch to make sure everything is making good contact.

Re: Update on Blower Motor Problems

Does the motor actually spins when '5' is selected? If it does then the problem is very likely the motor resistor but as GTP_Dad suggested it is a better idea to inspect both components at the same time.

Oscar.

No, the motor does not start or spin. All I hear is a clicking sound going from 4 to 5. How would i chck the fan to make sure it works once I take it out? Can i wire it to a regular power cord or use a voltmeter?

Re: Update on Blower Motor Problems

I would think there is a problem with the motor or the wiring (less likely).

You should be able to connect a pair of wires from the battery terminals to the blower motor and see if it works.

Re: Update on Blower Motor Problems

disconnect harness at blower motor, and attach a test light to the harness....start at lowest speed, then totate to highest speed....test light should get progressively brighter .....if it does, bad blower motor....

If it doesn't, check for power into the resistor block...if you have power in, bad resistor block....
