My 2006 impala LT 4 door 3.9l check engine light won't go away it says deffective gas cap/ or leak in evaporated system I bought a new gas cap from the dealer but the light is still there?? Any help please it wont pass the emission test.

Just putting a cap on, doesn't shut the light off.....need to clear the code.....AutoZone will clear it for free......
Make sure the filler neck, where the seal of the cap makes contact, is not rusted......make sure you get 3-5 clicks from the cap...... if the code is cleared and same code comes back, then there is a leak somewhere in the system......a smoke test will then need to be done.... |

we had the same issue with our malibu 3.5L ...Turned out it was some of the tubing for the EVAP and they had to drop the gas tank.
