Torque Specs
Hello,
It is that time to do the front end, front and rear suspension. Yay me. I have to replace my front and rear shocks. I cannot find the specs to torque the bolts/nuts. It is a 90 Dakota 2wd/4cyl/5spd. Also need specs for outer/inner tie rods as I do not want to snap them by over tightening. I cannot find the torque info in the Haynes manual I purchased. Anyone know of a good site to get this info as well. Thanks !

Re: Torque Specs
I am not a suspension trained mechanic. I have never heard of a torque for shocks or tie rod ends. I have put a lot of them on, and have actually called Les Schwab to find out if there was a torque on struts. I was told that there is no torque. I just tighten them to the point that I am not stretching the bolts or bending anything. If you go to a tire shop and watch them, they use the impact gun to tighten the shocks and struts. Be careful though, they are almost always a fine thread and have a tendency to strip. Good luck.

Re: Torque Specs
Checking the tourque specs for a 2001 Dakota, Outer tie rod ends are set to 80. And, the inner are set to 55. But remember... IT IS JUST A GUIDLINE. Many Dakota's and Durango's are similar and not exact. This is just and idea as how far NOT to go.
For $15.00 you can go to RepairSurge.com and download to full service manual for your vehicles. I haven't done it yet, so I don't know if it's 15.00 TOTAL or 15.00 EACH download. Good luck! |
