2004 Venture Evaporator leaking help!!

All,

I have a front evaporator leak in my 2004 venture. My mechanic was able to diagnose using a dye and noticed the only area of leakage was thru the drain tube for the evaporator. He has quoted me about 10 hours of labor and about $250 for the part. I have since looked at doing it myself and I am not very excited about it. My question is has anybody successfully used any of the sealant products. A service manager at a dealership was telling me about this and basically it would cost about $100 to do a test to see if it would work and then $150 for the rest.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks, mazzov

he is right and that doesnt include the recharge. throw some red tek sealer in it from a local auto parts and away you go.

Re: 2004 Venture Evaporator leaking help!!

Was looking at the sealer but not hearing very good things about what it can do to the compressor in the future. Moving more toward replacing it. Can anybody tell me if it comes out from the top or the bottom of the box that it is in. Doesn't seem as bad of a job as I had originally suspected.

If there is anybody that has used the stop leak successfully please let me know how long it has been in for and what brand is it.

Sealers are snake oil and they clog up your recovery machine-- don't ever bring me one with sealer in it. I've done that job- not bad- maybe 6 hours- I'd do it again--just have to seperate the facia from the dash- don't pull out the air ducts in the metal box rail- leave recirc door in place, separate it from HVAC box....
