2003 Monte SS - Manifold Replacment

I took my Monte in for the annual Missouri Safety Inspection. Note: I had no known problems with my 2003 Monte SS 117K Miles. After the inspection, which passed, I was informed of a variety of problems: Intake Manifold Gasket Replacement, Valve Cover Gasket w/Intake replacement, Thermostat w/Intake Removal, Fuel Injector O-Rings w/Intake Removal.

My question is should I have all of this done? It's not cheap..roughly 1000 bucks. I know very little about this and I don't want to just tell my mechanic to do it without some research. Are these common problems with Monte's of this age/mileage and just part of the cost of owning this car. I am the original owner and have avoiding costly repairs/maintenance..it's been a great car. Any help/advice would be great. Thanks.

Eric

what engine do you have??
most of the repairs are over lapping if your doing an intake replacement the rest should be done(just the right way to do it)oil change/filter also
now whats wrong with the intake manifold? if its a 3.8l dont no if it falls
into the years (03)they had problems with them. if the manifold is bad you
should have anti freeze disappearing.

after doing a search it looks like the 2003 is included

Re: 2003 Monte SS - Manifold Replacment

My mechanic says the intake manifold is leaking...basically a replacement for the the entire intake manifold...Remove and Replace the following: Intake Manifold Gasket, Valve Cover Gasket w/ intake Removal, Thermostat w/ Intake Removal, Fuel Injector O-Rings w/ Intake Removal, and Flush Cooling System.

Yes this is a well kown issue, from what I gather the sorce of the problem is the coolent used in the cooling system ( Dex cool )it basicly eats away at the gasket , depending on the leak , most common is it leaks in the exhaust side and cloggs the cat , also signs of small amunt of coolent loss , after shut down of engine faint bubbling sound , these are some of the tell tale signs .but it must be taken care of.Sound a bit high on the price though .

Heck you can do that job yourself for less than 300 dolllars..It isnt that bad of a job either..60 for the gm gasket for the lim...Oil change...New upper intake, rings thermostat, etc...Your call.
