V-8 engine comparo

Allright boys, not really a car comparison, but its close enough. What is the best STOCK V-8 engine ever made? It can't be bored, turboed,or SC'd. Just STOCK.

If I missed one, throw it in.

Judge by reliablilty, power, all the other goodies.

It is all about the Hemi, the ultimate american engine. Too bad you don't have the 528 Hemi in there, then again it never did come in any production car.

Good comparo!!!! There are a lot of good engines up there. I almost picked the 440 Six Pack, but I have to still go with the Hemi, and the 454, that was another great engine.

GM aluminum LS series, for reliability, fuel consumption, power potential weight and packaging, it's got a near hemi head design and can be had up to 7L if modded, with no extra weight save some internal assembly.

to many variables to answer that question. but the 350 small block chevy is the most popular engine of all time. cheap, plentiful and simple.

Although I will admit those Ford 427 side-oilers are awful powerful.

Instead of a 350 you should put them Chevy 302. As most Camaro buff's know that a Z28 camaro with the 302 is able to beat some 396 camaro's.

able to beat certain 396s, but the 302 really isn't necessary, a 327 will provide a better powerbands and still retain the high RPMs necessary, not to knock the DZ302 though, the stock motor can hold 9000 RPMs and put out some incredible numbers.

Others...

The V8 in the current BMW M5 is pretty poetent as well, though probably not as good as the current ZO6 engine.

I voted before I read the no turbos or SC's allowed, the new Audi RS6 twin turbo V8 is a better starting point than the ZO6 engine.

depends, you can always turbo the Z06 motor and get more power, even on stock internals it's able to put out well over 600 BHP.

The RS6 engine hasn't been pushed to it's limits yet AFAIK, but in stock configuration it's in the 450 HP range, and since it's turboed stock, I imagine that just changing software could reliably gain 50-75 HP for about $300, though the engine itself is probably quite a bit more expensive than the $12k for the 2003 ZO6 engine. This is a bit OT though, and is starting to get away from the "stock" disclaimer.
