radio problems

does anyone know why i lose bass and is not loud when turned up all the way. if i turn down the volume fast the bass kicks in and goes loud for a second. i did install new speakers in the front because the ones that came with the suv were shot. i have a 2008 equinox team canada edition, please help and if cant be fixed what would i lose if i install an after market radio.

It is the anti-distortion circuitry that is built into the radio's internal amplifier. This is nothing new. Most, if not all factory GM radios have had such a feature for over 20 years. Most reduce bass when excessive clipping is detected to reduce distortion. Others just simply reduce the volume to the point that the distortion goes away.

If installed correctly, you wouldn't lose any functionality by installing an aftermarket radio. The only thing that you may lose are the steering wheel controls. There are adapters available to retain the steering wheel controls, but they don't have a reputation for working very well.
