Bad MAF related to o2 sensor??

The MAF sensor recently went bad on my 2000 supercharged Regal, could this be related to the o2 sensor that was replaced a couple of months ago?? Since owning this car (for only 6mo now) I have never had good fuel economy, bought it with an o2 sensor needing to be replaced, was replaced by a friend, not a certificed mechanic, and it did not seem to make a difference in fuel economy. Now the MAF has gone bad, is this just bad luck or is there a chance the o2 sensor was not correctly replaced? Only code I am getting is for the MAF. After this friend of mine did my brakes, the right front ABS sensor went out, so I am beginning think he did a total hack job on my car!!!

Re: Bad MAF related to o2 sensor??

There is no relationship between the MAF & the 02 sensor. They operate totally independent from each other. In addition, the brake pad/rotor replacement, should normally have nothing to do with an ABS code. You need to have the ABS system scanned to see what the code is. BTW, how many miles on this car?

Re: Bad MAF related to o2 sensor??

160k miles. The ABS light came on immediately after brakes and wheel bearings were replaced...thoughts? Good to know that MAF is not related to the o2 sensor, thank you. Since I've read that the remanufanctured MAF units often fail, especially Cardone brand, I'm getting one from salvage today instead. Any thoughts/advice?

Look for a spare wheel speed sensor too!
80% of the braking is put on the front brakes, check and clean the wss.

Re: Bad MAF related to o2 sensor??

The brakes have nothing to do with the wheel sensor. If you replaced the bearing then the wheel sensor is part of the assembly. It is possible that the sensor was not corrected properly or that the sensor you put in was bad. I also suggest that you be very careful with a used MAF sensor. You may get a good one but the chance of getting a bad one is also a possibility.

I don't think your friend has anything to do with the issues you discussed just some coincidences.

Replaced MAF sensor with a salvaged one today, car is still acting like it was yesterday with the bad sensor unplugged (RPM jumps when idling, between 500-1000). Service engine light still on (from being unplugged overnight?) Will resetting the computer solve this?
