1997 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 Automatic Overheating when I turn OFF AC?

Hello, My 97 2.2 Sunfire is running hot. Not too hot but it gets hot enough to force the cooland out around the cap. It seems the fan is not coming on when it gets hot. I can turn the AC on and it runs cool but still the temp edges up a bit. When I turn the AC off the fan will run for a few moments then turn off even when still hot. Any thoughts?

I replaced the temperature sending unit with no luck also. I thought I may have even heard the relay kick on but not sure. Can the motor itself do this? It runs fine when the AC is on.

Actually I didn't. My car seems to have a computer issue. Among other problems the relay never gets a signal from the computer to turn on the fan. If the AC is on it works perfectly. I decided to simply straight wire the fan to the ignition. It keeps it cool. I didn't remove my thermostat. This seems to be a common problem with these when they get old.

I'm gonna bypass my heater core tomorrow and see if that helps. Mine overheats even with the AC on and the fan running. My fan doesn't kick on when it gets hot like yours. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Good luck... These things are a pain to deal with.
