98 lumina brake problems, NEED HELP!!

Hi, i am new to this site and i thought i would try it out. I bought a 98 lumina ltz a couple days ago. The dealer said it had brake problems. when i brake i have to push it almost all the way to the floor for it to do anything. so i bled the brake lines, it didnt help. i found the rear right brakes didnt work at all, so i replaced the shoes and the caliber for that tire and it still hasnt changed it. If anybody has any ideas or advice i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Does the pedal present any resistance at all or just go easily to the floor? No rsistance sounds like a master cylinder problem, a hard pedal with little assist may be a booster. You are on the right track. With the wheels off the ground, spin a wheel and have someone press the brake, continue to try and push the wheel if it stops and have them release the pedal to make sure the brakes release and the wheel spins immediately. Does the right wheel stop at all now, or has nothing changed?

It sounds like the master cylinder has an internal leak. especially if there are no external leaks, and you are sure you have no air in the system after bleeding. A new master cylinder should come with new proportioniong valves also.

Brake warning light on?

Any smashed lines under the car? Sometimes someone will take a little off-road excursion and mash them up. But the pedal would probably still be firm even if.

Lumina, like most FWD cars, uses split diagonal braking system. Each chamber in the master operates one front and the opposing rear brake.

Have to bled in sequence, or you just chase the air from place to place, never comes out...

pedal to the floor is a bad master cylinder or a small leak...

air will cause a soft pedal ...air is from leaks..

problems with master cylinders normally are from the use of contaminated old fluid.Just a drop of engine oil in the brake fluid will damage the master cylinder...causing your problem..

the emergency brakes working mean that the calipers in the rear are working and this has nothing to do with brake fluid as this is a mechanical operation not brake fluid pressures...
