Have you lifted and tilted it far enough?

There you go

What's the purpose of pulling it out.
Rebuild, or re-engine?

Any plans for anything fancy going back, or just a general rebuild?

Re: 96 Celica Engine pull for replacement.

Ahhhhh, could be a problem then.

The 3S and 7A use a different block. (Toyota engines are identified by the letter after number).

This means it won't be a bolt in swap.
The engine mounts, gearbox, ECU and wiring loom will be different.
You might also find the subframe and chassis mount points are also different, along with the axles, and even the radiator could be different.

Quite simply it's not a bolt in swap.

You need to put another A series engine there, and that best way to make sure it's a bolt in is to get another 7A-FE from a Celica.

Re: 96 Celica Engine pull for replacement.

Oh the other engine is a 4A-SE almost identical except for 1.8 litre and the 4SFE is a 1.6 litre.

Ahhh!

Should be fine then

Both use exactly the same block, just have a different bore and stroke.
Pretty sure they both have exactly the same head.

You may want to check all the engine sensors are the same, and have the same connections.

And you may want to use a 4A-FE ECU.

That said, it's going to go from a slow car, to a really slow car!

Can't you find another 7a?

Re: 96 Celica Engine pull for replacement.

Honestly the guy i bought the motor from told me it was an 7AFE 1.8 litre but Im learning alot and I called him back this evening and told him it was a 4AFE 1.6 he said he probably had it labeled wrong and to call him back tomorrow evening,I think my old engine could be fixed with a rod and a Crankshaft kit from NAPA it was running great just knocking.

A used engine will sometimes be cheaper, but is an unknown quantity.
It could be in worse condition than your old engine.

The engine code will be stamped on the block. You may need to clean some grime off it to find it.

How do you know your old engine has thrown a rod?
Have you torn it down?

If so then your half there to a rebuild, but you need to check a lot of things along the way, and make sure you replace as many parts as you can.
