Harley Davidson FLH Classic
Hi everybody..
i'm working on an old Academy kit found in a little suburbs workshop.. the kit is not as perfect as a tamiya one but although it is 20 years old, the detail is remarkable. i started with the mythical engine, working around the cooling fins of the cylinders, cutting off the mould lines and improving the detail. Also I scratched two new collectors changing the position and the angulation. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Harley Davidson FLH Classic
then i started the frame.. i've assembled every single part and added the rivets on the heads of the engine. rivets has benn obtained by means of nails turned on my dremel and engraved superficially to reproducing the screws.

Re: Harley Davidson FLH Classic
so I scratchbuilt a pair of rear shock absorbers by means of brass, plasticard and a steel wire.
I also post the photo of the project paper ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Harley Davidson FLH Classic
I then heavily modified the seat by means of two-component filler and plasticard.
after i scratchbuilt the exhaust system using a 4mm tube of plasticard and a flame. i think to realise a cannon silencer and not a "fish tail" silencer such as the original, so i'll do a customization of the model..but it is worth it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Harley Davidson FLH Classic
The last modified parts are the silencers, scratched with a 9mm tube of brass cutted at 45° using my friend "Dremel"

Re: Harley Davidson FLH Classic
Thanks everybody!
I spent these days painting the frame, the swingarm, the engine and the wheels. I used Acrylic black color, MM Metalizer Magnesium and Alclad Chrome. Instead for wheels I used a drawing tool for masking the tyres and I spayed acrylic white, creating the white stripes.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Harley Davidson FLH Classic
i spent last afternoon to scratchbuild a couple of new brake-clutch lever using two squares of plasticard and two photos of the levers.
i glued the scaled photos on plasticard and I started to cut the excess of plasticard. then i've finished with files and sand paper. the last passage is the munting on the handle-bar by means of a 0.7mm steel wire. So the levers are functioning, but i must find the method to permit the auto-return of the levers-self. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Harley Davidson FLH Classic
after the levers, i modified the oil serb and the battery with his chromed-cover.
the parts of the kit were too different from the original bike. I re-shaped the serb and scratch the battery (which can't see at the finish) and I painted them with gloss black. So i masked and sprayed the alclad chrome reproducing the shine effect ![]() I also added some cables on the two parts to improving the detail of the entire bike. I've also done the brake calipers, painted with MM metalizer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
