20 amp fuse to rear air shocks/compressor keeps blowing ?

The 20 amp mini fuse for the rear air shocks and air compressor doesn't seem to last over a few weeks before it burns open. I guess this means the air compressor / pump is sometimes drawing more than 20 amps when it comes on. When I replace the fuse it may stay working for several weeks or a month before the replacement fuse burns open and I notice the air shocks don't come on.

I am wondering if this is a common problem with these vans (mine is a 1998)?

I don't think it is a short in the wiring or it would blow quicker than a few weeks - - - wouldn't it? If anyone has found what is causing the fuse to blow or has just replaced it with a slightly larger 25 amp fuse with no problems let me know.

About the only thing I have thought about is that since this circuit comes on even when the van is turned off and then battery voltage might only be ~11.5 volts vs. ~14 volts with the engine running it might end up requiring more amps and thus blowing the fuse if there isn't much overhead designed into that circuit.

Another "fix" that I may have to consider is to cut into the wiring and install a switch near the front dash area so that I can switch on this circuit only when driving, or as needed, instead of it being hot all the time and potentially draining your battery when not even needed.

I do have the aftermarket Monroe air shocks and maybe they do not hold air very well or there is an air leak in one of the lines or fittings?

Anyway I'd like to see some discussion on this if others are having a similar problem with the fuse to this circuit.

Re: 20 amp fuse to rear air shocks/compressor keeps blowing ?

brushes to the pump motor could be worn if i remember that pump sits outside under the rear driver side, I tried taking one off another van and put it on mine just for pumping up my tires and they are pitted rusty full of dirt.. might try to oil/lube the pump too could be laboring when its on
