100 Octane gas?

I have a 94 cavalier 2.2 L and i was wondering if you guys think 100 octane would be ok to use in my car.

possible benefits may be increased fuel mileage, cleaner emissions and better Throttle body response

what do you guys think? and safe to use??

It would be safe as far as I know but there will be absolutely no increase in power/mileage/response/whatever, especially on a stock motor.

The octane number pretty much just measures how resistant the fuel is to detonation (due to pressure). That's why boosted and high compression cars are to run on higher octane, because due to the increased pressure, the fuel will detonate before it needs to causing knocking and possible engine damage.

Re: 100 Octane gas?

Agreed, in fact if there was any difference, you'd probably lose gas mileage and have worse emissions. Higher octane burns slower, and 87 octane isn't completely burned by the time it goes into the exhaust. With higher octane, less gets burned in the cylinder.

Re: 100 Octane gas?

octane is a commonly misunderstood thing. higher octane doesn't mean higher power. An engine that is designed for higher octane will perform better with that octane.
