Sunline 370Z

Hello AF! I put aside my other work since Im planning on attending a "It came from Japan" contest in july here in IL. I also love the sunline kit, so when JetModel made this available I just had to jump on it. My plan was to just replace the body on my previous Z which was flawed for this. Now I think I will just build the entire thing.

To start off this is what paint/color I will be going with:

Some of my new toys

The only moldlines I found on the resin kit. The rest is really clean and fits spot on!

The only moldlines on the body are on the rear bumper, hatch and front pillars. I needed to do a LOT of sanding and prep to get rid of them since these paints dont hide imperfections at all. A minor thing compared to the color options and finish they give

After I smooth the white basecoat I will paint it of course

I used Alclad2 gloss black base for the first time and for some reason it started doing this (I do have an air trap). I got it as a ready to go gloss base for cf which I can put on with my airbrush for more control. Plus I will not have to mess with cans that stink up the room.

I also got started on the interior. I decided to try the suede effect again to see if i could improve on my last try. The paint I used last time was too thick so the effect looked somewhat heavy to me and some detail was lost. This time around the effect is much "lighter" and better looking.

As far as wheels go I have 2 choices. I am leaning toward the RE30's (not sure on the black lip yet) and the BBS wheels.

Thanks for looking. Comments are welcomed

When you airbrush the body, do you have a mini paint booth or what? Care to show your setup?

Speedphreak sadly I don't have a booth since I can't afford one atm and don't really have room for one, so I spray on my desk

Lownslow the contest is July 31st in Crystal lake

Here is how I went about painting today. After the white base was sanded smooth, I started with a mist coat of BC01 Solar Gold followed by 3 wet coats

Once The gold was ready I mixed my Tangerine candy and got to work. After a mist coat I put on a medium coat and 2 wet coats.

After the candy hardens I will move on to adding the CF decals and the finish it all off with clear coat.

Hope you like it. And thanks for looking

Re: Sunline 370Z

there looks like quite a bit of texture in that last layer of paint you have there.
Have you been sanding down paint between coats or just applying paint over paint?

I sanded the basecoat smooth. It's my first time using candy so I didn't want to overdo it. Tomorrow I will smooth the candy and clear coat after I cf some body parts. I hope that will do the trick

Re: Sunline 370Z

I love the progress. I picked up the kit also but don't have a 370 yet so thanks for sharing. Nice to know the fit is good. Also on the paint mishap you had, maybe you didn't clean the resin thourough enough before painting?

Keep us posted.

Re: Sunline 370Z

Nice color and wheels options. First couple of candy-painted pics look orange, not that red of the final 3. What does it actually look like? And what´s that yellow stripe on the roop?
Will follow of course.

The 1st 3 are the gold basecoat needed to achieve the final color. Once it's finished I will post more pics. As for the stripe on the hood you will see

You are welcome MidMizar. The paint settled so it's ok now. But they were primed and the primer went on fine so I have no idea why it happened.

So I started some CF yesterday after having to repaint one of the seats after I damaged it. I am using my favorite decals of course.

Since I was going to cf the roof I didn't bother painting it entirely, hence the stripe

After some shaping with my finger, a brush to finish the edges, a little hairdryer love and trimming I got it done

I next moved to the sideskirt and rears. One thing that bothers me intensly is cf that is not aligned. The 1:1 cf car parts that I have seen are made with 1 piece of cf so it flows in the same general direction. Which is what I try to do, which can be a pain with twill weave. So the front bumper will be nice to cover. Anyway here are my pieces so far.

And what they look like on the car. I will clear coat these along with the car to not waste urethane clear.

As of now I do not knot if I will cf the hood. Any thoughts?
Thanks for looking!

Re: Sunline 370Z

Great carbon work !!
If you achieve such result on the hood, it may deserve to get CF too ! I think if roof is cf also can be the hood.
