Cool How can I reduce my fuel costs?

Hi everybody,

Can anybody give me any ideas for reducing the fuel costs, considering there is no chance of the price of oil coming down!

Re: How can I reduce my fuel costs?

Pretty much the only things that work are getting a smaller, more fuel efficient vehicle, reducing as much weight as possible in your current vehicle, keeping your vehicle in tune, keeping the tires properly inflated, and minimizing aggressive driving habits.

You're not likely to find a reliable tune that will improve mileage enough to offset the cost, and if your car has been properly maintained, additives won't likely make a quantifiable improvement either.

I second that. Aside from driving habits, there isn't much you can do aside from buying a more efficient vehicle, though there are people who over-inflate the tires and put fender skirts on to lower roiling/air resistance. Not sure how much that changes things.

Driving habits..... slow down a little.

If you double your speed, wind resistance increases by a factor of 8 (if I remember correctly), so a modest decrease in highway speed decreases fuel consumption dramatically.

Tune up the engine & maintain it regularly. In this way, the engine runs more efficiently and becomes more dependable. Remove unnecessary weight from the vehicle and inflate tires to the correct pressure. I am pretty much sure that by following this advice you will get the desired solution.

Re: How can I reduce my fuel costs?

People often laugh, but tape a spacer under the accelerator so you can only get about 3/4 throttle. I had a pickup that I attached a valve spring under the accelerator so full throttle was still possible, but the spring acted as a limiter.

tune-up
tire pressure
driving habits

Re: How can I reduce my fuel costs?

Do a Google ''EPA gas mileage <make> <year> <model>''

If below EPA - Your going to need a good tune up 1st.
Include a new Air/fuel filters, clean MAF sensor, and a new upstream HO2 sensor.

In the last week the price of gas in my area dropped 5 cents. They say it should be dropping below $3.50 a gal my mid summer!

Also using cruise control saves up to 14% on gas and avoiding excessive idling can save up to 19% on fuel.

Re: How can I reduce my fuel costs?

Hi All,

I found a website that has a fuel additive that increases you mileage. I get on average about 325 miles to the tank, and after using it two times I've managed to go an extra 30 on the first tank, and I've gone and extra 44 miles this time. I am now on my third tank and we'll see how I do. I'll post back in a week or two and let you know if the results stay the same.

The other thing I noticed, was I have 110,000 miles, once in while it pings, and since I have been using this, I haven't heard any pings. I'll keep you informed.

Here is the website I got the additive from [link removed]

A cold Air intake can do the same thing, it's easier to breathe air!
You can replace a paper air filter with a sham wow and get the same results.

... IF the original air cleaner was a restriction, then yes. Some CAIs don't improve anything except the seller's wallet.

[quote=AndrewChan84;6901374]I have a product that can improve 1.5 to 2 mpg, as well as optimizing the engine, and AT smoothness

[links removed]

I have gone to the links that were removed, it look's like it might beable to keep 12volts dc on the system during a battery replacement so data isn't being lost on Ecu/Pcu, and control modules.

The Sham wow works as a good cabin filter too!
