99 Taurus SE - Chirping from driver's side

Hi,

While looking to see where the 'chirping' sound is coming from on my 99 Taurus SE (Vulcan), I noticed a disconnected cable, right behind the battery/under the air intake - (m/f three prong) - it looks as though this has been disconnected for some time - could this cause the 'chirp'

Sorry, this is probably a dumb question, but I don't want to mess around without checking first

does the noise appear to be coming from the engine?may be the belt
as far as disconnected cable is it a heavy gauge like a battery cable?
or something smaller

Re: 99 Taurus SE - Chirping from driver's side

Thanks for the reply,

I'm pretty certain that it's coming from the driver's side, although I've heard there's a method of 'spraying soap' on the belt's to find out (?).

The wire is wrapped in metal, (runs from the driver's side headlamp to the firewall - lights work fine though) not as thick as battery cables - each end has a plastic connector, three prong - not sure if it's supposed to be like that, from the dust on it, looks like it's always been like that.

Chirping on the drivers side could be the Camshaft Sensor

Use a hose or screwdriver and place it on the sensor while running and listen if it is chirping.

Re: 99 Taurus SE - Chirping from driver's side

Thanks,

It looks like that's the cause... from what I've read, the parts are inexpensive, looks like it could be easy enough to replace (?).
