Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden dead - Barack Obama
![]() Al-Qaeda founder and leader Osama Bin Laden has been killed by US forces, President Barack Obama has said. The US is said to be in possession of Bin Laden's body. The al-Qaeda leader was killed in a ground operation in a mansion outside Islamabad in an operation based on US intelligence, reports said. Bin Laden is accused of being behind a number of atrocities, including the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September 2001. He is top of the US most wanted list. Crowds gathered outside the White House in Washington DC, chanting "USA, USA" after the news emerged. Bin Laden approved the 9/11 attacks in which nearly 3,000 people died, saying later that the results had exceeded his expectations. He has evaded the forces of the US and its allies for a decade, despite a $25m bounty on his head. His death will be seen as a major blow to al-Qaeda but also raise fears of reprisal attacks, correspondents say. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13256676 |

Usama bin Laden is dead, multiple sources confirm to Fox News. He was killed a week ago by a U.S. bomb. President Obama is expected to deliver a statement from the White House Sunday night to discuss the major development. The announcement comes nearly a decade after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks which started a tireless hunt for the terrorist mastermind and Al Qaeda leader. The U.S. had been waiting for the results of a DNA test to confirm his identity before going public. Sources said the vice president informed congressional leaders late Sunday night that bin Laden had indeed been killed. |

Osama Bin Laden Dead, Obama To Reportedly Announce Osama Bin Laden is dead, President Obama will announce, according to multiple news organizations. The U.S. is in possession of his body, a person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press late Sunday. President Obama was scheduled to address the nation on the developments Sunday night. The announcement that Obama would speak came at 9:45 p.m., less than an hour before Obama was set to go on the air, and set off a flurry of speculation. Two senior counterterrorism officials confirmed to the Associated Press that bin Laden was killed in Pakistan last week. One said bin Laden was killed in a ground operation, not by a Predator drone. Both said the operation was based on U.S. intelligence, and both said the U.S. is in possession of bin Laden's body. Officials long believed bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world, was hiding a mountainous region along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to speak ahead of the president. |

Osama bin Laden Killed; ID Confirmed by DNA Testing Osama bin Laden, hunted as the mastermind behind the worst-ever terrorist attack on U.S. soil, has been killed, sources told ABC News. Specific details of how and where the al Qaeda mastermind was killed were not immediately available, but sources said U.S. forces have the body and DNA testing confirmed that it was bin Laden. A national security source said that bin Laden was not killed in a drone strike, but declined to go into details about the forces that killed him. "This is a terrific day for America and quite frankly the whole world that cares about winning the war on terror," former Bush chief of staff Andy Card told ABC News. Card said the news is "particularly significant" for the intelligence community. "They're the ones who kept their nose to the grindstone and worked very hard to allow this day to be realized ... finally," he said. His death brings to an end a tumultuous life that saw bin Laden go from being the carefree son of a Saudi billionaire, to terrorist leader and the most wanted man in the world. Bin Laden created and funded the al Qaeda terror network, which was responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. The Saudi exile had been a man on the run since the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan overthrew the ruling Taliban regime, which harbored bin Laden. In a video filmed two months after the Sept. 11 attacks, bin Laden gloated about the attack, saying it had exceeded even his "optimistic" calculations. "Our terrorism is against America. Our terrorism is a blessed terrorism to prevent the unjust person from committing injustice and to stop American support for Israel, which kills our sons," he said in the video. |

Re: Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden dead - Barack Obama
O.K. here is a puzzling thought. Having been in the United States Navy, and worked flight decks where Helicopters took off and landed, not to mention shooting rifles and guns, and being fully aware of the noise they make. It makes no sense to me that Osama bin Laden was not armed to the teeth when the United State Navy SEALS shot his sorry ass. I have been watching the endless droning of the news media and simply can't believe that he slept through two helicopters hovering over head, one of which crashed in his back yard, not to mention a "vicious fire fight" and then they crashed his bedroom took him by total surprise.
Don't get me wrong. I am glad that the SEAL team shot him. They did the country a great service and I salute them one and all, and do not question their actions or their decisions. They did their Job, they did a GREAT Job. No trial, no retaliation of more hijacked planes trying to obtain his release, no, just a bag of fish food. The latest flap that he was unarmed when he was shot is pretty stupid. This is not the old west were we live by the sacred code. The moron drew first blood on September 11th, 2001 and got what he deserved. It just seems strange that he reportedly was "reaching for a gun" when he was killed. Ask yourself this question, if you were on the Lam, and your house was being raided, helicopters flying around and one crashed in your backyard, and people were shooting their own guns, and you had a gun by your bed, are you telling me YOU wouldn't pick it up????
