1997 Honda Civic Ex Fuel Guage Erratic acting
Hi,
Read through the posts and have found this to be very common on Hondas. I bought the daughter a 4 door for a new grandchild due in September. But, I cant have her in a car and not know how much gas is in it with the baby. I read somewhere about a faulty sending unit. By chance is this a part outside the gas tank an average guy can replace? I could really use some help. I have been maintainig Geo Metros for the past 6 years for both of my kids. Small cars, small issues, most of the time. I am getting too old to change teams!!!! Please drop me an email! Thanks, Joe

Re: 1997 Honda Civic Ex Fuel Guage Erratic acting
I'm afraid I don't have any experience with this issue in my 97 coupe, but I wanted to bump this to see if anyone with more knowledge can lend a hand.
Just to clarify, what behavior are you seeing when it's acting erratic, and is the inaccuracy all the time, or just at certain times? PS - this isn't a "formal" solution, but as long as she sets the trip at every fuel refill, she can just establish that a refuel is due at every 250mi or whatever interval you feel comfortable with. My 97 EX coupe gets usually around 30mpg city driving (but it's a stick) so 250 for an auto would probably be about 3/4 empty tank. Hope this helps!
