1997 blazer suv fuel gauge stuck on 3/4 tank

My fuel gauge is always stuck on 3/4 tank. I use my trip odometer to tell me how far I have gone so I know when to get gas. What can be done for this and what is the cost for repair?? Can I do it myself? Does the dealer have to fix it or any garage?? Please advise.
thanks
tom

usually this a caused by a bad conection or bad sending unit. try wiggling the connector on the gas tank and see what happens. if the senders shot it's pretty expensive to replace because the tank has to come out.

Re: 1997 blazer suv fuel guage stuck on 3/4 tank

it's on top of the fuel tank and kind of hard to get at there are 4 wires the purple one is for the gage when unpluged the guage should read full with key on now jump a wire from the purple wire to a good ground and the gage should read empty. if it does this the tank will need to come out and the sending unit be replaced.
