bought a 91 civic base hatch 1.5 4-speed, in need of help on ignition troubles
So I've posted this on honda-tech forums and nobody wanted to help, as is usually my case whenever I post anything on a forum.
Have replaced an ignition switch twice and problem still exists, car starts with key, or screwdriver into the ignition harness, before i plugged it back into the end of the key switch... but it won't shut off with the key, I need to put it in gear and slowly off the clutch, was wondering where I should start lookin for electrical problems, I have also noticed that the 12v power is shorted, as it shut my phone off as soon as I plugged it into the charger. Anywhere to start would be greatly appreciated! I currently have a HIDs on the car, and that's pretty much it. |

are you sure you used the correct ignition switch? A few plug in the same but the wires are different. Do you have your old one to compare. Have you checked your fuse block?

Checked the switch and it is the correct one, however I did not replace the key switch in the column as I tried it with the switch not hooked up to the key switch and had the same effect. I also looked online at diagrams of the different ignition switches and compared mine to what I should have, and it matches right up to what it should be.

Its not in the tumbler part of the switch, something isn't killing power to the main relay and ECU like its suppose to. I'm not currently in the state of mind to think of a good answer though.

If it acts the same if you bypass the switch with a screwdriver, I know which piece your doing this on, tumbler is out of the question because you just eliminated it.
I'm not sure without looking at the wiring diagram on what could cause this, just going off the top of my head, possible main relay.

My car did a lot of unexplainable things when the main relay was on the fritz. It's fairly cheap if you can replace it yourself.

You don't have a remote starter wired into the harness anywhere do you? Just a thought? |
