Control switch

Today is the first day the temperature reached over 60 degrees and I opened the driver's side window on my '98 GP (4 door). I parked, closed the window and did some shopping. On the trip home, the driver's side window did not work. The other three switches work. Can this be a problem with the switch or the motor for the window?

Re: Control switch

You'll have to take it apart and see. Try the easiest first, take the switch off the door and check for continuity with a digital multi meter. You should get none when the switch isn't activated and the dmm should beep when activated. If the switch is OK then you'll have to take the panel off to mesaure voltage accross the window motor terminals.

Oscar.

Re: Control switch

It looks as if the switch is bad. I have to make a choice - $242.00 plus tax for a dealer supplied one or $100.00 from the wrecker. Should I take the chance with the used one or spring for the new one. I will be keeping the car for awhile since it only has 57,000 miles on the clock and is 12 years old?

Re: Control switch

I have a Dorman branded one in my 99 GT 4dr and it's working perfectly, cost about $50.

Re: Control switch

It was the switch after all. Went to the wrecker on a "all you can carry" day for $49.95 and got the switch, 2 headlamps, 2 tail lamps, a coolant overflow (for 99 models and later) and a few other bits and pieces. Not a bad day for $49.95.
