pulsating hum/whirl

hello all,
for a while now i have noticed a pulsating hum/whirl coming from the front end of my 97 GTP. it happens only when i am giving it gas, whether to accelerate or maintain speed. as the car accelerates, the frequency of the pulsing increases as well. im 99% sure it has nothing to do with the alignment, because my car doesnt pull in either direction, and i do not feel anything in the steering wheel. does anyone have any ideas?? thanks in advance

Re: pulsating hum/whirl

Sounds like one of your wheel hubs is in need of replacement. I've replaced both of my front hubs and they both sounded like a single engine airplane. Noticed it at 30 mph and the noise increased with speed. A bad wheel hub doesn't always trip a ABS Trac light. To check a wheel bearing jack up the car and grab the tire at 12 o`clock and 6 o`clock and try to rock it up and down. if there is excessive play then you`ll need a new bearing. However, we don't always get "play" in the wheels if the hub is bad. Also you can go to an empty parking lot and do turns. Typically a bad wheel bearing will make more noise when it is loaded. So if you turn the car to the right, and the bearing makes more noise than it does when going straight or turning left, it's a pretty sure bet that the left bearing is bad and vice versa.
