Re: 1990 PA theft deterrent
Content theft or vehicle theft?
Vehicle theft was a chip in the key- and did not start on your model car until 1991. Content theft is easy, open driver's window, lock door with electric lock switch, shut door- (notice if dash has theft, or security light flashing) wait 30 seconds, unlock driver's door manually, (pull up on lock) then open door. Does horn honk and lights flash? If so, you have content theft security and it is operational.

This vehicle does not have the chip in the key. I believe it does have theft system but it doesn't work. I've tried what you suggest. according to ALLDATA manuals the module is mounted way up above the steering column in an almost impossible place to get at. I can't tell for SURE if there is a module there but I see wires leading to something. There is a same year and model at the wreckers which I hope to examine more closely. IF it's still there. They don't stay around long. Go straight to the shredders. All part of another plan to get old vehicles off the road, but that's another story. |

Re: 1990 PA theft deterrent
Most people wish to disable their theft deterrent. My M-I-L '91 Riviera's would come on in the middle of the night, in a trailer park, or even while driving, with no intrusions...I disabled it, by cutting offensive wire input at BCM.
Don't forget, you can go aftermarket for an alarm system and even remote start combo, for as little as $50 online. BTW my Mitchell-on-Demand says theft deterent code is UA5 - Passive keyless entry

No UA5 code so that explains the problem. Thanks for your help. I've run into another problem which perhaps should be in a new thread. I purchased a used remote for this vehicle. Was able to program it but it seems like it doesn't remember it very long. Twice now I've reprogrammed and an hour or two later it won't work. The batteries in the remote seem to be good at over 3 volts each. |
