Distributor cap

Hi, I know this could be a stupid question BUT how the hell do I get the distributor cap off my 1997 K2500 454 Vortec engine. It is obviously located at the rear, but under the scuttle panel and slightly under the top half of the inlet manifold.
I have removed the coil as that was bolted to the rear of the manifold, I can feel a screw or small bolt at the rear of the cap and assume there is a similar one opposite this which puts it under the top half of the manifold. Does this mean that I have to split the manifold just to change the cap and rotor arm?
For such a large vehicle and engine bay there really isn't a lot of room to work on these things.
If it makes any difference, and I doubt it, then it is also 4x4 and automatic.

I always use a 1/4 metric socket set for the dist cap screws.
Metric socket to fit the screw and sort extension and ratchet usually gets the job done.
Bigest problem is the ears on plastic dist base breaking.
Use care removing and installing screws.

Large or small vechicle life under the hood is not easy anymore.
And a ford truck is a lot harder than a chev!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
