1990 Civic LX - valve clatter when cold?
Hello,
I'm the original owner of a 1990 Civic with 285k miles. Over the past several months the car has noticeably become louder when starting from cold. It sounds like the valves or lifters are really clattering. It's worse the colder it is. It decreases as the engine warms up and goes away after about five minutes. What is this? Is it serious? Will getting the valves adjusted help, or is this something like piston slap? I've been very good with maintenance, but know it's getting up there. Is this a sign it's nearing the end? Thanks! |

When was the last time the valve lash was adjusted? I would start there.
