89 Corolla, Running very rich
So, I have an 89 toyota corolla, and it seems to run very rich, which is eating up my gas mileage. I think I heard something about adjusting something on my carburetor? How do I do this?

Re: 89 Corolla, Running very rich
You may be due for a carb rebuild. If the little float inside the carburetor is stuck in the down position, or the little valve plunger is worn or gummed up, this can overflow the the bowl and allow excess fuel into the intake.
Also check that all of your vacuum lines and the carb base gasket is airtight by spraying around them with carb cleaner while the engine is idling. If the engine stumbles or stalls, you found a leak. A carburetor rebuild kit will have all the replacement gaskets and o-rings needed. Hope this helps!
