How are the 2000 on from the 95-99?

I may be getting some money in the next few months and may be able to get a newer car. I've been looking at the (early 2000s) Park Aves.

A lot of my friends have the newer, 2000's version Lesabre. I rode in one today. I was kind of saddened of how the newer gen Lesabre was kind of wrecked from the previous gen like mine (92-99).

First, I love the room I have in mine. When I have friends ride in back, they have lots of room. On the newer gen, not as much room. I noticed on the bottom part of the front dash, it sticks out more. That's right where my knees go.

Every time he started it up, you hear a growling noise. Its the "leveling" feature.

Can anyone tell me details of some changes with the last Gen Lesabre? I know they changed the platform. How did that work? Better, worse? What is better and worse of the last Gen Lasabre?

Thank you,
Chris.

P.S. He told me the Leveling feature is so you never have to replace the struts, but also if it ever goes out, it will cost more then the car to replace.

Re: How are the 2000 on from the 95-99?

I haven't test driven a lot of 2000+ Lesabres, but my impression is that the interiors are more modern looking, and perhaps higher quality.

BUT,
2000+ uses a cheaper window regulator that breaks. <99 Uses a more rugged scissor lever mechanism that lasts forever.
-98 uses 4T60e which doesn't have the famous PCS that goes faulty.
-99 seem to be very prone to rust. 2000+ may not have been around long enough to really know. My 97 Lesabre has holes in the rocker panel rails. So far, not so bad that I'd consider it structural.

2000 up have a lot more made in China parts.I have a 1997 Buick LeSabre Limited which is quality built. My 2003 Lesabre Limited has auto level rear air ride the same as my 1997. Both cars ride great and get good gas mileage.

Re: How are the 2000 on from the 95-99?

I loved my 2000 LeSabre (bought new), and other than wires, plugs, and one wheel bearing, one button on the steering wheel, everything...including the battery was original when I traded it in for a Lucerne in 2007. It had over 250k on it if I remember.
People will tell you the window regulators go, particularly the back, but I never had any issues. Part of the problem with the back is that if they are used infrequently, like everything...use it or lose it. Roll them down once in a while.
As for the Lucerne (bought new) which replaced it, the only thing original is the frame and the paint. What a piece of work THAT was.
