Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano 1/24 Mica Red

Hello from Greece again.
Another Ferrari from me, after the 550 and 575, I complete the family of big Ferraris with the 599. The kit are the well known from fujimi, with Crazy Modeler PE set, wheels from Hobby Design and resin Daytona style seats from KA Models.
A OOB build, painted with Tamiya 's Mica Red and polished without clearcoated. I add some details, flocked interior and I put a magazine, sunglasses and the ignition key to give more "lifeness".

not a big fan of the 599 in any of its guises but I am a big fan of Tamiya's Mica Red.
I especially like it over a gold base.
At the moment, I'm torn between Mica Red over gold or Mica Blue for my 599.

I agree 100%. It;s my first time to use a mica paint from Tamiya, and I like it a lot. I spray over grey primer... My first thought is to spray over gold or silver but I paint it during cristmas vacation, so I don't have all my tools and paints in this period.
Next time I try gold base.
So, what about silver base. What the difference in the result oppossite to gold...

I had a set of spoon test of Mica Red over white primer, grey primer, silver, gold and even black but alas, they have been disposed of.

However, I do have two kits painted in two of the variants.
Generally, the base coat adds a different "tint" as it were to the final finish.
For example, with a gold base, it seems a deeper colour and when the sun hits it, it shines well, gold.



On the other hand, a black base makes the colour much darker (obviously) and it seems to make the highlights/ shadows on the body work more prominant compared to a lighter colour.
It's a deeper/richer/more mature(?) colour without being too dark if that makes any sense.
