2k bravada awd doesnt work

I bought my brother in laws 2k bravada about a month ago. It runs great drives great, the only problem it had when I bought it was the dash lights didnt work, which I fixed, someone just used tape when they installed an aftermarket cd player. Anyway, the awd worked fine when I first got it, but wont at all now. Where do I start? I saw something about the encoder motor on the t-case. Can I get one from an astro van or safari? This is my first run with awd, and so far I am not happy. I would rather go with 4wd, I like the control. Anyway, give me a good starting point, altho winter is almost done, I dont want this problem next year. Thanks.

Re: 2k bravada awd doesnt work

You might find and remove the AWD fuse, it may show ATC (Automatic Transfer Case).

Now change the transfer case fluid to the Autotrac II blue fluid from the dealer.

The old fluid tends to varnish/thicken up and makes the encoder motor work difficult.

After running this a few days, re-install the ATC fuse then see if it started working again.

I prefer the AWD over 4WD since the girls are the ones that drive our Bravada the most. It's simple, they don't have to think about it, and I don't have to worry that they'll leave it in 4WD and roar down dry pavement at 80 MPH after using it to get through a rough spot and this is from an old Jeep fanatic that had locking hubs, three speed manual with a low range and a rear differential overdrive. Like that old cig commercial, "You've come a long way baby".

Re: 2k bravada awd doesnt work

I was in a cloud burst once and cars ahead nearby were hydroplaning & reaching for brakes. One near lost it going sideways.
My trusty Bravada did a little shuck as a coupla wheels lost traction but it stayed straight in the road...and my load leveler wanted to sell it years later, yeah sure
