won't start when it rains. Please help.
I have a 92 Civic EX. I bought it cheap and poured a grand into it. New distributor, plugs, cap, wires, some other stuff. When it's dry out it starts and runs fine. When it rains it will crank till the battery is dead but won't start. I've had it at the shop with a Honda mechanic who is familiar with this particular car. He re-soldered some electronic box under the dash that he said usually causes problems in these cars. That wasn't it. I hope someone has experienced this and can help. Thank you in advance. Eric

Re: won't start when it rains. Please help.
I haven't had this problem with my Civic, but I can say that my Subaru Forester had almost the exact same issue. The issue with the Forester was that the distributor would crack (this happened TWICE when the car had under 36k miles) and let water in. Then when the car tried to run, the water would inhibit the spark. The only way for me to run the car under that condition was to drive it "heel toe" or wait until it stopped raining. Any chance your mechanic (or you) can check to see if the distributor you got suffered the same fate?

Re: won't start when it rains. Please help.
1) Take a garden hose with low water pressure + set it in the middle of windshield.
2) Open the hood and watch the water roll! 3) Focus on electrical buss lines for fuel injectors, ignition wires, and computer. |
