1976 xr7 vin codes
Hey all, I am looking to purchase a 1976 xr7 and I was wondering what the "H" engine code stands for. Does it mean it is a 351W or a 351M? I know that the code states that the "H" code is a 351-2v but it doesn't clarify any further. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Guy |

Re: 1976 xr7 vin codes
My Petersen's shows two 351s Q code and H code. The H code is listed as a higher torque and slightly higher HP motor. If the one you are looking at has 8 bolts on each valve cover it is a 351M, 6 bolts is the Windsor.

Re: 1976 xr7 vin codes
Thanks. I found some pictures of 351's on wiki and Based on the thermostat housing, figured out it is a 351W. Unfortunately, I couldn't see the bolts on the valve covers so I had to go a different route.
