No Torque under 2000 RPM

I just recently rebuilt my 93 firebird formula. I got the engine running but I have no power under 2000 RPM's. It idles great but runs like a dog until i get the rpm's over 2grand. I am clueless. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: No Torque under 2000 RPM

Perhaps a timing or electrical issue?

Re: No Torque under 2000 RPM

I would trace backwards and start with the plugs and make sure the gap didn't get changed on them or if they are new, that they are gapped correctly. (Also, if they are old maybe they are fouled up.) That could cause issues at lower RPMs... Another thing to check that was always an issue on my Firebird was the plug wires. They used to arc through the insulation sometimes and you could see it clearly at night... Hopefully that'll be a good starting point for ya.

Re: No Torque under 2000 RPM

Since this is a "new" build, what camshaft was installed? Was it "degreed"? COULD be "too much" cam or not installed correctly. The cam "card" always has the spec for "where" the cam is to be installed. Ask the builder. If it wasn't "degreed", it should be checked. Too far "retarded" can cause this symptom.

I didn't change the cam. I never removed the cam from the engine. Could it be from the valves not adjusted right?

Check the camshaft timing. You may find it's off a tooth. You don't have to remove the cam to mess the timing up. An error in installing a new chain and sprockets is enough. It's easy to make this mistake.
