K&R Replicas 1/24 Jaguar - White Metal Kit.

This is next up for me. K&R Replicas Jaguar XJ13 - the race car that never was.
Kit is white metal with rubber tyres and vacform windows. Semi curbside with quite a nice amount of detail on the upper engine.
First job is to glue and screw the front and rear valences and repair any imperfections. When this is done I can start applying primer and work on the engine and interior. The engine sits in an engine compartment which makes it a seperate module, this will be handy because I can plumb and wire the engine out of the car.
Progress will be fairly slow as I am also working on a Fisher 917 LH Porsche and I also need to buy some fittings for the injectors on the V12 Jag engine.

Re: K&R Replicas 1/24 Jaguar - White Metal Kit.

K&R do some nice C and D type Jaguars. Fit of parts is good on all the stuff I have seen. I think they are the only game in town for the XJ13 and C types also the range of schemes is very good. Only drawback I can think of is the wire wheels on the C type kits are a bit poor, the spokes are obviously flat owing to the fact that they are a bit wide. The white metal kits are heavy but underbody supports could negate the problem.
Steve.

This is going to be really cool. I got to see the real thing at Retromobile about ten years ago. It is just a fantastic looking little car.

I'll definitely be watching this one! I'm wiring the engine on mine at the moment, but I'd really like someone else to figure out how to fix the front light aero perspex, because I've had two attempts and still not got it sorted!

One thing I have noticed that you need to watch out for is that there are replicas out there that do not look exactly like the real thing, especially in the engine bay and cockpit, so treat any non-period photos with some caution before using them as reference - have a darn good look at the bonnet badge if you can see it!

This is worth a look:

There's also one of Alain de Cadenet driving it somewhere nice and green, but I've only found that once and I can't track it down again...

bestest,
M.

Oh..yes, another beautiful vintage Jaguar race car, I will be watching with a lot of interest this build thread, the real car looks superb and by the model photos you posted the kit looks pretty good and with a lot of detailing potential, can't wait to see more!!!

I think the Alain de Cadenet clip you are referering to is from the "Victory by Design series" the Jaguar Marque program, it seem these got pulled from YouTube because copyrights issues....I had seen clips of these superb automotive specials that I found at youtube and marked in my "favorites" but they are shown as "no longer available"...I have seen all the full program series in speedvision and must say they are superb in terms of production, photography and the selected cars shown, if the DVD's where not such an expensive product I will have ALL of them!!

Matt, how about some wip photos? I have a few nice pics from the net, avoiding the replicas, currently making up my mind about the level of detail. I am thinking of adding main fuel and injector lines and HT leads. I was impressed with what is included with the kit and with careful painting the oob version could look very nice.
The headlight covers in the kit are designed to fit from inside so are never going to look great (all the glass parts in this kit are designed the same way) The screens I can probably get around but the headlight covers will have to go in the bin. I am looking around for some decent clear packaging to make some with a better fit. At the moment I am making the headlight cowls as the kit parts do not replicate this area and it looks awful, pics to follow shortly.
Regards, Steve.

Re: K&R Replicas 1/24 Jaguar - White Metal Kit.

Hi, Steve... thanks for the inspiration. I dug mine out and got going again! I've posted my own WIP thread rather than hijacking this one. For the "sugar scoops" around the headlights, I've successfully used styrene false nails on an E-type, and I think the same could work here....

bestest,
M.

Re: K&R Replicas 1/24 Jaguar - White Metal Kit.

The headlamp housings are more or less empty in the kit so I have scratchbuilt some housings out of plasticard. The corners has been filled and needs to be sanded and primered. This bulkhead can then be fitted in place and the rest of the gaps filled with a skim of polyester putty. It will be difficult to ensure this area is smooth but worth the effort to avoid an unsightly empty space.

I am busy filling and sanding the body to remove any imperfections, I really want the paintwork to be as flawless as possible. Also thinking about opening up the bonnet duct but that will take some careful work.
Regards,
Steve.
