2000 buick regal-rear brakes
Can someone give me a step by step procedure to change the real brakes of a 2000 Regal?
I need details because this is my first time doing this. I have the car all jacked up but wanted the details before I jumb in to this. Any little tricks will help and pictures would help very much also. |

Re: 2000 buick regal-rear brakes
Jerry you mean rear brakes? Title changed to reflect that.
The big difference is you have a top hat rotor assembly versus just a single disc like the front end. So you may have to loosen the parking brakes before it comes off. The inner part of the top hat rotor is used for the parking brake shoes. Other than that same process like the front end. Obviously it has a caliper and caliper bracket but the bolt size is different. Disc pads work the same and install/remove the same.

Re: 2000 buick regal-rear brakes
The caliper comes off first and then you remove the caliper bracket. Then the rotor can be removed.

The caliper bolts are the highest one or the lower one in the back?

Re: 2000 buick regal-rear brakes
also i believe you have to screw in pistons so pads will fit in. you can get a unaversal at autozone to turn pistons in or rent it and take it back. unless your replacing calipers also because the piston on new will be screwed in for you.

Also, a c-clamp compressor comes in handy to compress the caliper piston so you can get the new disc pads on if you decide to replace the rotor. That way you do not have to open any hydraulic line which will result in having to bleed air out of the system.

Re: 2000 buick regal-rear brakes
Well I think I am getting closer. The only question I have is just how loose should the slides be?
I put the brake lubricant on the slide pens but the one with the rubber around the end (top one) moves a little slower. Both right and left are the same. |

Re: 2000 buick regal-rear brakes
Jerry, inspect the caliper sliding pins for any scoring or damage. If fine then just use the right hi-temp brake lube on them. Remember to use a torque wrench on the caliper and bracket bolts. Let me know if you need the specs/figures.

I did get done but I don't have a torque wrench so I tighten them has tight as I could.
