1/12 Porsche 935-a very old build.
Here's my version of the Tammy kit finished in 1989. My skills were even rottener then than now...
I have the reissue and SMS detail kits waiting down in the dungeon and they make my scratched details look like the work of a blacksmith. The Pactra clear (remember Pactra?) has turned a very light tan which actually adds to the vintage race car feel. Polished with LMG grits and race muck sprayed over in appropriate areas. Oh well, it was a good learning experience. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: 1/12 Porsche 935-a very old build.
Excuse me but, I see nothing wrong at all with this build, in fact there is a patina of age over this model bringing it to life in my eyes.
The dead bugs on the front, and the windscreen are a very nice touch, not many people would have thought about modelling those, ![]() All in all one very impressive build, give yourself a pat on the back from me, .gpz900ra7.

Lesley-nice to hear you say you want it for reference. At the time I built it I borrowed a Porschefile friend's big thick Porsche history book (forget the name) which had excellent pics and text of this actual car. IIRC it was driven by Ickx at Dijon in '76 and the book had great B&W shots. Even showed the boost wastegate adjuster on the dash at that downward angle (which bothered me!) but I modeled it as it was shown. I left off the radio antenna because I could not find reference for the radio, Tammy didn't include one and I was afraid I'd snap it off in handling... To be honest, the model should have more road and tire dust under the rear wing and across the back and much more brake dust on the wheels and tires. As I said-a learning experience.

Hi Merlin,
Porsche looks superb. I know the SMS detail kit is a work of art by all accounts but, looking at the details you have scratchbuilt, you should be more than proud of your efforts. I love the weathering, especially the different colours for the 'bug guts'. The glass display case is also very impressive, is it home made? Very nice work for 22 years ago. I don't like remembering what my builds were like back then! Cheers, Steve. |

Some members on here are probably only 22 years old!Yes, I make glass cases for my 'special' builds. Had my own frame shop for a time and still have all the equipment. For most I cut picture frames for bases and join the glass with silicone. All are custom-sized for the model's size. Very time consuming. I think you should make a case for your 917 on the cobblestone base-would be a natural and really preserve that excellent build.

If you consider your skills "rotten" I'd hate to know what you think of mine!! This is really a great looking build...very realistic!!
