runs hot FAST
I just picked a 96 Cherokee up at a Auction ( I purchased it thru an online auction), It started right up the guy with me loaded a car on the rollback. I was out of gas so I stopped a 1/4 mile from the auction site my friend went on, I also checked the water and oil both fine. About 5 minutes after fueling I glanced over a my gauges, temp was on 260+. I didn't exactly know where I was, so I drove probably 10 more miles to a GAS exit. When I exited the engine was barely running. It ran the 1/8 mile further to a station then cut off. I had it rollbacked the rest of the way home. I've checked the oil NO WATER, I've checked the water NO OIL. Then I started it up ther is water and white smoke coming from the exhaust after a minute or two and the temp gauge goes up rather fast. I'm thinking blown head gasket. Why no water in oil or oil in water and what should I do next.

Re: runs hot FAST
Could be the head gasket and I agree, since it gets very hot very fast. I'd also check the thermostat and water pump - if the pump isn't turning that would do it also.
