audi people dont help, will you?
hey guys, i know this isnt about a grand prix, but nobody uses the A6 forum really...but anyway, my buddy's 98 A6 2.8 wont start. from what he has told me, when he tries to start it, it doesnt spark or turn over at all. also, he told me that he has to turn the radio off manually every time he turns the car off. removing the key and/or opening the doors does not shut it off. i think it has something to do with his ignition harness...but if any of you guys have any input, it would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance

Re: audi people dont help, will you?
to clarify, does the starter engage and actually spin the engine over, it just doesn't attempt to start like the coils are disconnected, or when he turns the key to the start position nothing happens?

Re: audi people dont help, will you?
he says it turns over but wont start. honestly, i dont know if that and the radio are related, or if they are just coincidence. he said they started happening at the same time though

Re: audi people dont help, will you?
Has he checked for any spark? Just to make sure the coils are OK, if there isn't any then the next step would be to remove the coils and test each one, also test the ignition module which fire's each plug as the PCM signals to. It should be mounted right below the coils.
Best regards, Oscar.

Re: audi people dont help, will you?
You can either use a screwdriver (make sure the plastic handle is in a good state) insert it into the plug side of the wire and put it close to any grounded part in the car, then crank the engine and you should see the spark shorting to ground; or you can buy a spark plug tester at most autopart stores, it looks like a spark plug with a bolt and a gap in the middle.
If you want to test the fuel pressure there should be a test port on the fuel rail or close to the injectors at the engine, if not there are some adaptors which allow you to open the fuel system at the fuel filter or another connector and connect the fuel pressure gauge in line with the system, it should be available at most autopart stores too. Best regards, Oscar.

Re: audi people dont help, will you?
You know I used to own an audi 100 ls. Prone to fuel injection system issues. Overall it was a good car but euro spec.
