1997 stuck in park found problem with shifter but...
i have a 1997 gmc jimmy slt with the 4 wheel drive.... car was stuck in park checked fusses and everything looked ok also checked break light and they were ok. when i removed the center console i found 5 wires green with a stripe, yellow, solid green, black and red wire going into a six pin connector switch gray in color. The black wire was off and the red and yellow where hanging out of the connector. i cant find the connector at the local store today but they told me they would try and find it tomorrow 02/14/2011 my biggest problem is that i don't know how the wiring goes back into the connect as they were off when i removed the center console, can someone tell me how the wires go back in the proper order top row first then bottom row second from top left to right and bottom row left to right. i know one pin is not used so it only leaves 5 pins to connect to. Also i was able to start the car by connecting the the red wire to the yellow wire and the dark green with the green wire with the strip. but i did not connect the black wire to anything because i don't know were is goes. sorry for giving so much info as i am not a mechanic just trying to fix it myself as i don't have the money right now to have someone look at it. any help on were to get the OEM part or wiring would be greatly appreciated. i will include a picture of the 6 pin connector and a short video of what switch i had to bypass to allow me to put the car into drive.
thank you so very much Michael link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFBeqUNc4NY |

Re: 1997 stuck in park found problem with shifter but...
i would tear my console out and take a pic of mine, but i have a manual trans, so it's probably different. i assume from the vid that it is a floor shifter?
hopefully, someone can grab a pic of theirs for you.
