gas mileage

Out of idle curiousity, does anyone have any idea about what speed range the '97 - '03 Grand Prix (3.8L) gets its best fuel mileage? I just took a little road trip yesterday, and with a fairly recent tune up I only got slightly over 23 MPG.. I was traveling between 70 and 85 MPH most of the way though.

Re: gas mileage

I don't know about a specific range but I get about 25-27MPG when traveling at 55-65MPH.

Regards,

Oscar.

Re: gas mileage

Mine gets its best milage right at 55-60mph. Anything past 60mph and I start dropping milage.

Re: gas mileage

i think around 50-55 is the most fuel efficient. it shifts at about 46 mph, i believe, but feels rather bogged down at that speed. so my bet is 50-55

Re: gas mileage

I don't have the figures for my GTP and really don't care about fuel economy since it is moderately modded for drag racing. But for comparison my stock '99 Buick Regal LS gets a consistent 26 mpg at 70-75 mph. NA Series II 3800 engine but with 3.08 gearing.

Keep in mind depending on what GP model gas mileage will vary. Gearing is one issue. For example GTPs should get good cruising mileage at speeds of 70 mph due to the 2.93 gearing versus GT 3.29.
