04 GP GT2 starting problem, headsup display, and broken dash

04 GP when i get in it sometimes and try to start it, it dies right away. If i give it a little gas after it starts it stays running and no problems. i havent yet done a tune up!?!?!?!? i was kinda wounderin if it might have been an idler sensor of some sore! I also have a headsup display and it hasnt been working for sometime. i noticed over a year ago that if i rode on a rumble strip it would cause the diplay to fall from the top into view and over time it would just fade back up into the sky. loose wire somewhere???????? im a little irritated because over time my daseboard around the heads up display is cracking and breaking like crazyyyyyyyyyyy. is this heat and stress? is this causing headsup problems? i dont like cars but i really love this thing!

Thanks for any and all help
Andy

Re: 04 GP GT2 starting problem, headsup display, and broken dash

Hey Andy, there is a TSB floating around for the exact same starting issue you describe. The fix is to clean the throttle body. Its probably a good idea to remove it to clean it. Use a toothbrush, rags and carb cleaner. Just don't allow the carb cleaner to get onto any electrical components of the drive by wire system. When done, install it with a new gasket and you should be good to go.

I can't help with the HUD issues unfortunatly.

I doubt it especially since you live in Illinois. Probably a manufacturing defect or quality issue but not much you can do about it now.

Is your HUD working/projecting properly and do you have full control over it?

Re: 04 GP GT2 starting problem, headsup display, and broken dash

The HUD works as far as showing the image and I can control the brightness and changing the format. The Only thIng is I can not control the movement uP and Down. If I ride on a rumble strip sometimes it causes it to come down on it's own and I can make it go up but it won't go down with the button

Thanks Andy

50/50. Either the HUD control button on the center console or the HUD unit itself. Even '04 and up Grand Prixs have HUD circuit board issues like the previous years.

How is HUD visibility during the daytime?

Do u know what the circuit board issue was? Basically my only problem is the arrow down function.

Re: 04 GP GT2 starting problem, headsup display, and broken dash

Most circuit board problems were related to the display not positioning. High probability it is the switch. Do you know if anything like coffee or soda was ever spilled there? Try removing the switch on the center console and check the wiring and general condition.

I'll check the GM wiring diagrams and give you some other possibilities.

Here's the HUD switch (UV6) wiring pinout:

Pin 1 Gray - IP Panel Supply Voltage
Pin 2 Black - Ground
Pin 3 White - Low Reference
Pin 4 Brown - HUD Image Down Control
Pin 5 Brown - HUD Switch Signal
Pin 6 White - Illuminated Display Signal
Pin 7 Yellow - HUD Image Up Control
Pin 8 - Not Used

Re: 04 GP GT2 starting problem, headsup display, and broken dash

the outcome may take awhile since first of all its a nonesential item in the car, so lack of money and the other half wont let much money go. as well im really not lookin forward to takin the console apart cuz im not sure how it comes apart
