flywheel and ring gear question

has anyone had any luck removing the ring gear and flipping it over instead of buying a new one? the teeth dont have any taper on them. i did this once on a samurai with good results but this 302 flywheel is bigger

Re: flywheel and ring gear question

success. in case any one cares i used propain torch, straight claw hammer head w/out handle, 2 lb sledge, several pcs of 2x4 and 3 c clamps.
i leaned flyweel up on edge and heated the ring only. when i got it hot as i could w propain i laid it down on ring side of f.w. placed claw into grove and gave a wack. btw i laid it down right on the concrete and put my foot on center, there is enough thickness in f.w. to get it started. worked my way around and put it on wood blocks to finish it off. that was the easy part. it popped right off.
i flipped the f.w. over and laid ring, good side up, on it. placed block over part of ring, put knees on block to hold it best i could, used another block to beat ring gear on.
i could only get it part way on but i got it started. i then put in on top of some blocks to get it off the floor and stable still. used the c clamps to hold ring gear where it was started. i was able to get it to seat a little bit more just with the clamps.
i heated the part that wasnt seated yet, made sure part of a block was right under that part and gave a few wacks and it seated 99 %. i went around the gear with the clamps to close any places that wasnt all the way tight.
on a scale of 1-10 i give it a 2. was pretty easy lol
