Red face 2004-F250 Wireless Keyless entry pad problem

I have a 2004-F250 with the wireless keyless entry pad that doesn't seem to work. This pad is battery operated. I removed the quarter size, 3V battery and it measured 2.96 VDC. When I press one of the button the background led turns on for a second then turns off. I am not sure if the battery ran out of juice or if the pad is broken. when i press the factory security code nothing happens. When I press 7-8 and 9-0 buttons to lock the doors nothing happens either. I hate to buy a new battery that may not work. The Ford users manual says to use battery (Ford # 3L2W19G545). It actually has a Rayovac battery number BR2335 and I am not sure if they are both compatible.

Can some one please help me..
