2000 GTP No Fuel

It is the 2000 GTP 2 door. It is my sons car and is dead in front of my house. Changed the fuel filter as it is cheap to do. At the check valve there is no pressure in the fuel line. I turned it over with the hose off the filter it did not pump any fuel. I do here a click or clunk in the gas tank when I turn it over suggesting it is getting power into the pump.

I almost went and bought a pump but do not really want to put the $230 + tax down without checking the resistor after reading around the net.

Thanks for the quick response.

Re: 2002 GTO No Fuel

I've moved your post to a new thread at the regular Grand Prix tech forum for discussion.

It looks like this '00 GTP underwent a production change where the two fuel pump relays were modified. Meaning Relay 15 is no longer the fuel pump speed control relay and there is no longer a fuel pump resistor. So the bypass procedure is not applicable.

Since the fuel pump is priming (on for 2 seconds) it sounds like a bad fuel pump. Just to be sure check fuel pressure at the Schrader valve on the front fuel rail with an automotive fuel pressure tester.

Thanks again. I will try that and more than likely be changing the pump. At least it has the top trunk access.

Re: 2000 GTP No Fuel

It was the fuel pump. Glad it is running but my son is not happy about to give me his entire tax return this year. Hahaha.

Thanks for the feedback and glad the issue was resolved. Yeah, speaking of son's owing Dad. If I added up all the help in labor and parts my son owed me it would probably equate to a one week vacation in Hawaii.

Re: 2000 GTP No Fuel

Hello BNaylor,
I have a 98 Grand Prix and I believe I am having a similar problem. My engine will not turn over and I do not hear the fuel pump engaging when turning the key in the ignition. I played around with the fuel pump relays but to no avail. I would like to attempt the resistor bypass but am not sure which terminals to jump. I believe there is one method that involves bending the prong back on one of the relays and the other involves jumping two diagonal terminals with a strip of wire. Would you be able to tell me which terminals to jump? Also, can you confirm that the high speed relay is the one closer to the middle of the fuse box and that this is the relay that the bypass should be applied to. And if you have any other ideas of what can be causing this problem I would appreciate your input. Also, I read that this is usually the problem when the car starts and then stalls after a few seconds. My car cranks but doesn't actually start. Does this man that the resistor is not the problem?

Re: 2000 GTP No Fuel

Is this a L67 GTP? See link below located at our Tips & Maintenance subforum.

Doesn't sound like your issue since the fuel pump is not priming.
