Classic F1 Knowledgeables! I need your assistance - Lotus 79

Hi, AF. It's been a LONG time since I've posted anything here. I haven't had many opportunities to do any modeling over the last few years, but I'm ready to come back with a beautiful 1:20 Hasegawa Lotus 79 kit.

But I need your help! I want to detail this one as much as possible. Unfortunately, there seems to be a single reference photo that is eluding me. So I look to those of you who know your way around classic Formula 1 references to help me out.

I need photos of the Lotus 79's battery! This always seems to be a shortcoming in various car kits I've built over the years. I don't like the kit's battery, as it looks like every battery I've ever seen in a car kit, and I want to get this one right, because it's one of the things you first see when you take some of the bodywork off. Through all of my reference hunting, I've only found two photos that offer even a glimpse of the battery. But I think these are modern batteries, which probably look different from the original ones.

Does anyone have a photo that is specifically of the battery!? The second photo above is pretty clear, but I don't know where the battery cables attach and such. I'd like to avoid guessing if at all possible!

Here's a picture of the kit part from another builder:

And also, this is my first Formula 1 kit, so if you guys have any tips for making it stand out above other builds, please let me know! I'm going to do my best to do a WIP, also.

Thanks!

Re: Classic F1 Knowledgeables! I need your assistance - Lotus 79

I had some reference photos of the '77 car (Lotus 78) and it showed the battery having two "normal" terminals you'd see on your everyday car. It even used one red and one black cable. I used a banjo fitting to simulate the connection and it worked well.

My $0.02. Let me know and I'll send what pics I have to ya of the 78 that shows this (if I still have them...)

Daniel
