Car pulls to the left - caliper grabbing?
My car has been pulling to the left for the past 8 months or so - I've been ignoring it. I recently got an alignment, and now it doesn't pull as hard to the left as it used to, but still noticably. Tires have been rotated, and that did not fix the problem. The Haynes manual says "front brakes grabbing" as the only possible thing left that could cause a PULL that I haven't already eliminated.
After driving, I feel the left and right brake rotors and compare the temperatures. The left one is warmer than the right, but NOT a HUGE difference. It's just enough to be noticable. Is this normal because the left brake is closer to the master cylinder, or is the NOT normal and being caused by the left brake grabbing, which would pull me to the left? Any insights?? |

Re: Car pulls to the left - caliper grabbing?
If you have lubricated the floater pins and the caliper slides free on them, then you have either a binding caliper piston, or deterioration on the inside of rubber hose. Cheap repair for the benefit of driving comfort & peace of mind.

Re: Car pulls to the left - caliper grabbing?
did you jack car up to see how the l.f. wheel turns? it can only be caliper or rubber hose colapsed inside hose as zzzz say's. you can try this loosen bleeder on caliper and see if fluid comes out rite then tighten bleeder and push on brakes and if it sticks again i would go with the rubber hoses to caliper.

Re: Car pulls to the left - caliper grabbing?
Thank you both. Should I assume that I do have a "brakes grabbing" issue, OR is it normal for the left rotor to be a little warmer than the right rotor after driving 10 miles with little breaking? If this is normal then I have no reason to believe that I have an issue with the brakes. The temperature difference isn't huge between the left and right rotors.

Re: Car pulls to the left - caliper grabbing?
is it still pulling left? if so still not right have you checked make sure caliper is sliding back and forth as it should? if not you need a little grease where it slides. but on caliper yes they will get warm driving also rotors to so don't touch them when you just get done driving it.

Re: Car pulls to the left - caliper grabbing?
Clarifying my question:
Before I tore into the brakes, I wanted to verify if it was normal for the left rotor to be a little warmer than the right rotor. If this is normal, then I shouldn't suspect the brakes as the issue. |

Re: Car pulls to the left - caliper grabbing?
No they should be relatively the same temp.
