HI everyone. I live in Texas, and own a 2000 Windstar with over 130,000 miles on it. I have a large family-5 kiddos to be exact, and I am concerned about my rear axle breaking while on the road with them.
We have a trip to make in a few weeks and I am worried now! I noticed that the recall was only issued for certain states, and did not see Texas on the list. I want to know if anyone has any more recent info on this? I just read a story of a young father whose rear axle broke and it caused him to crash, and he died as a result. PLEASE can anyone offer any advice or updated info. for me? I don't have the money to take it in-but wonder if the local Ford house would look at it for free? And if they did find a crack, would Ford cover the repair? Just because we don't live in a state that uses a lot of road salt, doesn't mean that my axle can't break. Please help this worried mom of 5! |

Re: Rear Axle Recall Question-worried!
Does anyone have any ideas on here? I am reading story after story of Ford keeping people's vans for at least a month or more until the parts come in to repair the axles. I have also read where they have bought the vans back from some owners.
This is important information, so I would have thought more people would be interested. |

Re: Rear Axle Recall Question-worried!
I would recommend that you visit your local FORD dealership and have them inspect it.
The issue is with corrosion, rust which is why they only issued the recall in states that use salt. However, an inspection should give you peace of mind. I like to have a "safety inspection" every year or so for just the reason you mention. Some states require this, my state does not, just a emissions check every other year. I am a youth leader for my church, and use my vehicle to haul other people's youth around, and want to feel comfortable about the condition of the vehicle that I am driving. True, something can still happen, but at least it won't be from lack of trying to be safe.

Re: Rear Axle Recall Question-worried!
Thank you so much for your help Wiswind. I too, take my family to and from church many times throughout the week and their safety is of utmost importance!
I will give the local Ford house a call. Hopefully there is nothing wrong and I will have peace of mind before our trip! Thank you again! Have a Merry Christmas! |
