Crazy Electrical Problem-2005 VW Golf

Hi All,

I'm having a very annoying problem with my wife's 2005 VW Golf 2.0L auto.

Periodically, there will be a repeated sound of a switch activating, almost like the sound when the doors are repeatedly unlocked, the fuel door unlocked, or the hatch unlocked. I can't isolate where it is coming from or what it is. It may even be coming from the dash.

Also, while this is going on, the dash backlighting (not the dash lights but the backlight like when you turn your headlights on) will flash off and on as if you are turning your headlights on and off. Finally, if the radio is on this cuts in and out (I'm not sure if this happens all the time).

I've taken the car to the VW dealer and of course it doesn't exhibit the problem there. Has anyone experienced this problem? Any ideas what it might be? I was thinking it might be a relay or maybe the body control module, but I'm not even sure the Golf has a bcm!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

Sounds to me like a poor earth point or possibly corrosion within a connector block. Couldnt tell you where these points are though sorry.

sounds like the body module (called a comfort module in vw terms) is activating the alarm horn. Check out the battery neg cable to see if it is tight on the battery terminal.
